Social justice is a broad term that affects many areas of public policy and public administration, including healthcare, gender equality, reproductive rights, education, employment and voting.
It can be divisive, especially in light of conflicting ideas about equality, fairness and the allocation of limited resources. Advances in equality often disrupt the status quo, which can be a threat to those people or groups who are in power. As a result, we seek to balance the need for social change with the realities of political and economic structures, and then work within the system to improve it. We seek the redistribution of power to enhance the well-being of individuals through equal access to healthcare, justice and economic opportunity.
We believe that progress toward social justice requires carefully crafted public policies. In today’s highly polarized political climate, effective policies also require a nuanced understanding of political, economic and social systems, as well as a strong grasp of the legal and social implications of any action.

Social Justice is both a process and a goal. “The goal of Social Justice educations is full and equal participation of all groups in a society that is mutually shaped to meet their needs. Social Justice includes a vision of society that is equitable and all members are physically and psychologically safe and secure.”
We strive to center the lived experiences of our intersectional identities in all the work we do. In order to centralize the lived experiences of our community, we utilize the Social Justice practice as the foundation in our work. In particular, we draw inspiration from the Social Justice Change Model and the Model of Environmental Purpose and Design frameworks inform the services and support our spaces provide. Further, we support scholar development based in these models as well, with our goal of inspiring scholars to find their agency and become active agents for social change.
We believe in the political and philosophical theory that focuses on the concept of fairness in relations between individuals in society and equal access to wealth, opportunities, and social privileges in a society by promoting access to resources, equity, participation, diversity, and human rights.
We take pride in shaping public policies to address social justice issues, and as a result, political factors influence the extent to which social justice plays a role in the policies shaped by the government and administrators of the day.
We pursue social justice initiatives by championing for policies that promote wealth and income redistribution, government subsidies, protected legal status in employment, and even legalized discrimination against privileged groups through fines and taxes or even through purges historically. Our desire is to see our social justice initiatives integrated into economic policies, as well as in the platforms of left-leaning political parties within democracies.
